✏️ KidWrite

KidWrite is a writing practice app designed for children under 6 years old. We are deeply committed to protecting children's privacy. This policy explains what data (if any) we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a parent or guardian.

Specifically, KidWrite does not collect:

• Names, email addresses, or contact information
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs
• Location data
• Photos, camera, or microphone access
• Usage analytics or crash reports sent to external servers
• Any data from children or adults

KidWrite stores only one type of data — writing progress — and it never leaves your device. This includes:

• Which letters and numbers your child has practiced
• Practice accuracy scores (stored as numbers)
• Music on/off preference

This data is saved using Android's standard local storage (SharedPreferences) and iOS's NSUserDefaults. It is never uploaded, synced, or shared with anyone. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored data.

KidWrite does not require an internet connection to function. All letters, audio, and animations are bundled with the app at install time.

The app makes exactly one type of network request: on launch it may download a small static file (version.json) from our website (hosted on GitHub Pages) to check whether a newer version of the app is available, so we can let you know about important updates.

• This request contains no personal data, no identifiers, and nothing about your child or their progress.
• Like any web request, the hosting provider (GitHub) may process your IP address in standard server logs to deliver the file; we do not receive or store this information.
• If you are offline, the check is silently skipped and the app works normally.

KidWrite does not use:

• Advertising networks or ad SDKs
• Analytics platforms (Firebase, Mixpanel, etc.)
• Social media logins or integrations
• In-app purchases or payment processors
• Cloud storage or databases

The only third-party libraries used are open-source Flutter packages for UI rendering, audio playback, and local storage — none of which transmit data externally. The app-version check file is hosted on GitHub Pages (see Section 3). App rating uses your device's built-in store review prompt, provided by Apple/Google.

KidWrite is designed for children under 6 years old and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations.

• We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children
• We do not display advertisements
• We do not allow in-app purchases
• The app contains no social networks and no links aimed at children; the parent settings menu contains only links to this privacy policy, the app store page, and our support email
• No parental consent is required because no data is collected

KidWrite requests only:

• Audio playback — to play background music, sound effects, and letter pronunciation audio. No recording permission is requested.
• Internet — used solely for the anonymous app-version check described in Section 3.

No other device permissions (camera, contacts, location, microphone, storage) are requested.

Since KidWrite stores only non-personal preference data locally on your device and transmits no personal data, the risk of data breach or unauthorised access is minimal. The version check is served over encrypted HTTPS. Your device's own security (PIN, biometrics) protects the locally stored progress data.

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, notify users through an app update description on the Play Store or App Store.
